A well meaning meme I heard about mentioned states that, special needs children are gifted to special parents.
Suggesting there’s a reason of some kind we’re blessed with our children and their unique challenges.
I suspect the reason most of us end up with special (Neurodiverse in this case) children. Isn’t because the universe looked into our hearts and saw a special quality.
It’s more likely because you and/or the other parent have flown under the radar your entire lives.
You possess a resilience and resourcefulness that’s allowed you to get to this point in life in spite of invisible challenges.
You also possess the DNA alive and well in your child. In all of its unfiltered quirkiness.
You deserve a lot of credit for what you’ve accomplished.
You didn’t do any of it by being “special”. Please don’t put that pressure on yourself.
You did it by consistently doing your best while up against a neurological quagmire you didn’t even know was there.
