Why Do I Need Snowshoes In August?

Man wearing snowshoes in Aug.
I’ve lived with depression of varying degrees since I was a kid. Living with a confusing whirlwind of neurodivergence in your body will do that.
I’ve worked throughout my adulthood to learn mindset, breathing, and other strategies to help regulate my mood, and they’ve worked spectacularly.
In recent months, my mobility has decreased even more, and it’s catching up to me. Being unable to drive and be upright for more than a few hours at a time, you know the drill. Your desires want one thing, but your body wants another.
I asked my doctor to prescribe something to help with my depression. I haven’t needed anything for that since my divorce 16 years ago.
Requesting this of my doctor makes me pay extra attention to why I’m making the request. I need to be careful not to dwell on this for too long because I risk adding more water to it, turning it into an icky, destructive gremlin.
Perhaps I can see this as strapping a pair of snowshoes to my feet. They help me keep from sinking in the growing snow. Perhaps the snow will decrease, and I won’t need them anymore. Until then, I’m glad I have them.
Please know that I love life and am grateful for every moment. I’m also aware of when I need help to maintain clarity, and prevent unnecessary harm to myself or others.
The best thing I can do for others is take care of myself, because that determines how I show up for you.
